Bacalar was founded by the Mayans and was harassed by pirates for centuries for its commercial importance on the shore of the lagoon of the seven colors. It is a place full of culture whose influence you can see on the facades of the entire town.

KNOW HIS HISTORY

Visit the Fort of San Felipe with its ancient stone walls that take you back to a medieval castle. Today it is the San Felipe Museum, which tells you the history of the area through maps, certificates and drawings of what happened there years ago. Visit the Church of San Joaquín, patron saint of the city, which has been completely restored.
